About #eduphotoaday...

We love Instagram. It's awesome. If you're here, you probably feel the same way. Also, you're probably a teacher. So are we.

We teach the small people and think they are awesome. So... why not combine 2 very awesome things? Sounds like fun, right?

Imagine a day in your classroom. It's time for Daily 5/Writer's Workshop/Whatever you call it. You've just finished a great lesson or you've given your students an inspiring invitation to write or you've provided them with an incredible hands-on experience... or so you think. And now it's time. As you walk around the room you see some children writing, some daydreaming, and then you hear it... "I don't know what to write about!" Ugh.

What if you gave them something different. Something new. What if you gave them a picture, or a bunch of pictures, taken by other kids, all around the world. A picture's worth at least a thousand words, right? ;)

So here it is. Our crazy little idea. (Okay so maybe it's not so crazy.) Inspired by Instagram and the small people.

#eduphotoaday: An Instagram photo challenge for kids & teachers

Here's how it works:
If you'd like to participate, search the hashtag #eduphotoadaymay on Instagram. The first photo is the challenge. For each day during the month of May there is a word or phrase. Have your students take an Instagram photo that represents that word or phrase. Hashtag it #eduphotoadaymay and the word or phrase of the day. The next day look at all of the Instagrams from the previous day and use them as writing inspiration. If you're really up to the challenge, share a link to any writing that your kids do about the photos... or have them write in the comments under the photos that inspired them.

That's it. Those are the rules. Feel free to break them.

This blog will serve as a place where we'll collect some of the photos and writing so that they can be shared with non-Instagramers.
